Meet the Voice Behind the Letters

Center Grove Orchard in Iowa.

My name is Aaron Johnson, a 31-year-old from Austin, Texas. My wife’s name is Iris, and my daughter’s name is Eloise. I have a passion for writing, particularly when it involves my family and my daughter, Eloise.

How It All Started

I originally started daily blogging on my previous Ghost blog, Learning All Day, with the intent to apply all that I was learning in the Clear Habit Journal, by James Clear, in an effort to journal my constant inner thoughts.

Each day, I would write down one simple line in the “One-Line-Per-Day Entry” notebook to describe my day. I would then take that one line and expand the prompt in a text post, headlined “Expanded OLPD Entry”, mixed with a bit of “learning” that included pieces of science, history, and a new vocabulary word to learn. This was my take on “learning” every day.

Where It’s Headed

Since taking a break from writing, I’ve shifted my focus from a general audience to my daughter, Eloise. These letters are my intimate reflections for her, written in real time. They chronicle the love, growth, and wisdom I hope to share with her one day.

I understand that the recipient is my daughter, Eloise. However, I’ve also noticed that some of my family, especially my wife, Iris, and others, have taken a liking to my words, and that means the world to me. If you can find any value in my writing, I hope it brings you some comfort or insight.

The Deets

Here’s when new letters will go out each week—so you’ll know when to check your inbox (or the Substack app):

  • Sunday Series: Published every Sunday at 7 AM (CT)—new reflections and letters written in real time. These are long-form, reflective “think” pieces.

  • Archived Series: Published every Wednesday at 7 AM (CT)—revisiting older journal entries and early writing from my previous publication, Learning All Day.
